Hunter Captures the Kiwi Challenge in New Zealand

Hunter traveled to New Zealand to take part in the Kiwi Challenge, which is a two-round event featuring four of the brightest young golfers in the world. Hunter competed against Anthony Kim, Brandt Snedeker, and Adam Scott.
Hunter played well during the opening round and shot a one under par, 71. The other first round scores, Anthony Kim shot a two under par, 70, Adam Scott shot a one over par, 73, and Brandt Snedeker shot a six under par, 66. Snedeker tied the course record with his 66, but the tournament was still in reach for the other competitors.

After starting day two in third place, Hunter found his groove and put himself in contention to win the tournament. Hunter played solid golf on the front nine and then caught fire on the back nine. He had four birdies and an eagle between the 12th and 16th holes. Hunter finished the round with a course record seven under par, 65. Anthony Kim, also played excellent golf and shot a six under par, 66. Hunter and Anthony finished tied after 36 holes, and competed in a playoff to determine the champion. Hunter defeated Anthony in the playoff, by sinking a par putt on the 18th green. After the playoff, Anthony credited Hunter for his play and said, “No one really played that well besides Hunter. He made all the putts he needed to on the back nine and took the championship.’‘ Hunter talked about his spectacular round of golf saying, “I’ve shot 62 before but I don’t think I’ve had a run like I did today.” Hunter added, “I felt as if I putted well all day but I wasn’t that sharp. Then I got a putt to fall and got another to fall. When you get some momentum you can get things happening.” The Kiwi Challenge will be televised November 15th and 16th on NBC at 4pm.

Hunter & John

Thanks for coming Downunder to NZ for the Kiwi Challenge. It was great to be at the course to watch you play, especially when you lit the fuse on the back nine to storm home to victory. Hope you both enjoyed NZ and we look forward to good results for your team in ’09. We will be watching closely.
